AMD's potential financial exposure tied to helping customers finance AI data centers has grown to roughly $8.5 billion, according to reporting on its September figures. Lease guarantees rose sharply over the quarter, and AMD also holds warrants on Core Scientific shares. The company has not reported any defaults so far, but if partners fail to pay, AMD could still be responsible for rent on facilities it plans to hand off to them.
- Lease guarantees rose from $4.1 billion in June to $7.7 billion in September, an 88% increase
- Another $750 million in debt guarantees brings total potential exposure to about $8.5 billion
- AMD received warrants to buy up to 30 million Core Scientific shares at $23.47 each, with rights rising as more capacity is leased
- AMD ended September with $15.8 billion in cash and short-term investments
- No defaults reported so far, per the report
