Version 4 · effective 2 August 2026
Moatkeep uses strictly necessary cookies and storage — the kind needed to sign you in, keep your session secure, and process payments — plus one optional cookie that exists only if you arrive from one of our Google Search ads and accept the one-line notice shown on that arrival (see below). We do not use advertising, analytics, or cross-site tracking cookies. The one optional cookie described below is the only non-essential cookie we use.
If you click through to Moatkeep from one of our Google Search ads, we show a one-line notice asking whether we may remember that ad click. Two cookies are involved:
mk_gclid: set only if you accept the notice. Remembers the ad-click identifier so we can credit a later registration to our own ad; readable only by our server, never available to scripts. Kept 30 days, or until you clear cookies. This is the one cookie that is not strictly necessary — it is set only with your consent.mk_ad_notice: set when you answer the notice, whether you accept or decline, so we don't ask again on a later visit. Kept 12 months. This one is strictly necessary — it's what lets us honour a decline and never ask you again. If you don't arrive from one of our ads, neither cookie is set and you are never shown the notice.
To defend account registration and sign-in against abuse (bots, credential stuffing), we derive a technical fingerprint from connection and device characteristics at those moments. This is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking, and it is not stored in a cookie.
