Members of the union at Micron's Taoyuan plant in Taiwan voted overwhelmingly against the company's latest employee bonus offer, according to a count the union confirmed on a Sunday statement. The union is holding out for a profit-sharing system that routes 15% of operating profit to workers, and it has urged Micron not to use its planned 24-hour warning strike to pressure members. Talks at Taoyuan resume October 27. A separate agreement at the larger Taichung site does not bind the Taoyuan operation, because the two plants are distinct legal entities. The dispute matters for investors because Taiwan hosts Micron's main DRAM and HBM manufacturing, and a stoppage could tighten a memory supply market that already runs close to capacity. Micron has said it will introduce quarterly performance-linked payments for staff worldwide from fiscal 2027, but it has not disclosed a fixed share of earnings for that pool.
- Of 1,637 Taoyuan union members who voted, 1,633 rejected the company's latest bonus offer, a count reported as 99.8% of ballots cast.
- The union confirmed the vote count in a statement on Sunday and said 'no' votes exceeded half of its total membership.
- The union is seeking 15% of operating profit to fund quarterly employee bonuses; Micron has not disclosed a comparable set share.
- Micron plans quarterly performance-linked payments for employees worldwide starting in fiscal 2027, on top of its annual incentive program.
- Talks at the Taoyuan site resume October 27; the Taichung union reached a separate agreement that does not cover Taoyuan.
- Taiwan's labor ministry and President Lai Ching-te have publicly urged Micron and the union to negotiate.
- Micron employs about 15,000 people in Taiwan; its two unions together represent more than 80% of the Taiwan workforce.
- Micron shares were up 3.43% at $887.48 at the time of a Benzinga Pro update on Monday, October 26.
