A Business Insider report, carried by Benzinga on October 21, 2026, says Amazon has started paying for Nvidia AI server racks earlier under a so-called early receipt program, so some hardware sits in warehouses at sites that lack enough electricity to run it. Internal emails cited in the report pointed to roughly $5 billion of Nvidia systems expected in August and about $3 billion a month after that, with no end date given. Amazon described staging gear near deployment sites as standard practice and disputed that AWS lacks a broader deployment plan. The same reporting puts trailing free cash flow at negative $7.6 billion for the twelve months to June 30, against positive $18.2 billion a year earlier, and cites an AWS executive expecting free cash flow to stay negative for a couple more years. For holders, the open question is how quickly capital tied up in unpowered hardware converts into revenue, since the value of the idle equipment was not disclosed.
